What is a Low Fat Diet?

Low-fat living is about changing the way you think about food, from understanding what eating low fat means, to knowing which foods to eat and avoid, which ingredients to buy, and what you need to help you reduce fat in cooking. A low-fat diet is a diet that consists of little fat, especially saturated fat and cholesterol.

But, remember that not all fats are bad. There are two classes of good fats that could add to your health. These are polyunsaturated fats and monounsaturated fats. Both types of unsaturated fats are thought to mitigate some of the harmful effects associated with saturated fats and trans fats.

Following a low fat diet is an essential first step in attaining good health and a lean body. A low fat diet ideally contains fewer food products that are rich in carbohydrates and fats. Also, sometimes you could actually turn a normal meal in to low-fat meal by following the right cooking methods. Low fat cooking is simply a way of preparing and cooking a wide variety of foods that reduces our total fat intake. Replacing saturated fats with moderate amounts of unsaturated fats, using low fat or fat free ingredients, and making simple changes in how we cook, can help us enjoy a much healthier diet without sacrificing whole food groups, or flavor.

Ideally a low fat diet should contain less of food products like wheat, rice, and potatoes and more of fruits and vegetables cooked in a healthy way. All the fruits available in the market are rich in almost all the major vitamins and minerals which are very much essential for your body.

Thus, a few changes in the things that we eat and the way we cook them could do a lot of good. Low fat diet, thus prepared would not only help you lose weight but also keep you healthy.
