3 Day Diet- Truth or Fiction

The 3 day diet is another of those fad diets that withstood the regression caused by time. It has been a popular fad diet for losing weight since the 1980s. People still believe in the diet’s ability to reduce cholesterol, increase energy and eventually result in weight loss. However, so far, there are no documented evidences substantiating this claim. The diet plan is also erroneously known as The Cleveland Clinic Diet.

The 3 day diet plan is a strictly regimented plan. Weight-losers have to follow it for exactly three consecutive days. After the third day, they can resume the normal course of eating. The working idea is that the dip in the amount of calories would be sustained by the dieters for a long period of time. The claimed weight loss is around 10 pounds in 3 days.

Further, meals have to be eaten in exactly the same manner and portions as are prescribed. Any failure would result in missing the goal of a 10 pound weight loss. Both over-eating and under-eating are to be avoided.

Here are the full details of the 3 Day diet meal plan.

Day 1

Breakfast:
1 piece toast smeared with 1 tablespoon peanut butter
Black coffee or tea, with 1-2 packets Sweet & Low (or Equal) sugar
1/2 grapefruit or juice

Lunch:
1 piece toast
1/2 cup tuna fish
Black coffee or tea, with 1-2 packets Sweet & Low (or Equal) sugar

Dinner:
1 cup carrots
1 cup green beans
3 ounces of lean meat or chicken
1 apple
1 cup vanilla ice cream

Day 2

Breakfast:
1 piece toast
1 egg
Black coffee or tea, with 1-2 packets Sweet & Low (or Equal) sugar
1/2 banana

Lunch:
1 cup of cottage cheese or tuna
8 regular saltine crackers

Dinner:
1 cup broccoli or cabbage
1/2 cup carrots
2 beef franks
1/2 banana
1/2 regular vanilla ice cream

Day 3

Breakfast:
1 ounce cheddar cheese
5 regular saltine crackers
Black coffee or tea, with 1-2 packets Sweet & Low (or Equal) sugar
1 apple

Lunch:
1 piece toast
1 boiled egg
Black coffee or tea, with 1-2 packets Sweet & Low (or Equal) sugar

Dinner:
1 cup cauliflower
1 cup carrots
1 cup tuna
1 cup melon
1/2 cup vanilla ice cream

Apart from it, dieters are also supposed to drink 4 cups of water or any other non-caloric drink throughout the day.

Whatever the claims may be, the bottom line remains that a 1000 calorie diet plan can not work wonders over three days, that too without any form of exercise. In order to really lose weight, it is necessary that the deficit between requirement and availability is small. If the gap is huge, our metabolism may slow down, resulting in increase of weight at twice the pace in which it was lost.
