Gastric bypass surgery is a type of bariatric surgery that would help you lose weight at a rapid pace. However, the surgery is a slightly complicated one as it would radically alter the tract through which your food passed. Hence, you need to take care of a few things after the surgery. Tip 1: Calling the surgeon at the right time: There is a need to call the surgeon post-surgery if any of the following complications emerge:

* You notice pus or blood leaking out of your incisions.
* You suddenly begin to bruise easily.
* There is a development of unexplainable severe leg pain.
* You have difficulty breathing or are short of breath.
* There is a development of fever with temperatures above 101 degrees.
* You cannot keep fluids down.
* When you notice dark or blood-stained stools.

Tip 2: It is best that you don't consume calories in liquid form. Do not guzzle down fruit juices or any other form of liquid calories which would provide you with excess calories. That ways, you will be defeating the very purpose for which the surgery was performed.

Do not take any over-the-counter drugs before the prior approval of your surgeon. They might interfere with your medication.

Tip 14: Avoid pregnancy for the next 24 months after the surgery. Your body would be in a complete weight loss mode and it requires some time to stabilize. Make use of effective birth control measures to avoid any complications.

It is better that you have a support group around you. They would help you recover from the surgery at a psychological level.
