Fact 1
Obesity can mean an increased risk of cancer.
Low self-confidence and self-esteem are not just the only consequences of obesity. The effects of this stubborn problem can be even more devastating and dangerous. Recent studies have shown that the problem of obesity can have extremely risky effects and can even lead to various cancers.

If the study done by researchers at the National cancer Institute in 2001 is to be believed then obesity and lack of physical activity led to cancers of the breast (after menopause), colon, kidney, esophagus and lining of the uterus (endometrium). Now this should be alarming enough for all obese people to get into action.

Obesity can be the cause of heart attacks in young adults.
Obesity can have several life threatening consequences including the risk of heart attacks. The risk of a heart attack due to obesity is more prevalent in young adults who fall in the age bracket of 15 to 34. In the 1990s the CDC notes, and the death rate from heart attacks rose to 32 percent in women and 10 percent in men.

Though the increase in number of deaths due to heart attacks was mainly because of obesity, smoking and drug abuse also played an important role.

Obesity can hamper your daily lifestyle.
It is not just major health problems like cardiovascular diseases and cancers that are an alarming reason to fight obesity. Obesity can have negative effects on your day-to-day life too. Daily chores like carrying groceries, walking up stairs, kneeling and stooping can become a pain if you are obese.

Various studies including the he RAND Institute, the University of Wisconsin and the Dutch National Institute of Public Health and the Environment have shown that obese people fare worse in physical function, vitality and self-image. Obese people are also more likely to have a chronic disease or osteoarthritis.

Fact 4
Obesity can cause early puberty in girls.
If you are a girl and fall on the obese side the chances of your puberty occurring early are ample. A study published by the journal Pediatrics found that girls who are overweight have an increased tendency of developing breast and pubic hair at age 8 or 9.

Early puberty can in turn be cause of various emotional and behavioral problems with girls. Thus it is important to watch out for weight from the very beginning.

Fact 5
Middle age obesity can lead to an increased of dementia.
If you are suffering from obesity in your middle age, you are not just going to suffer the consequences of the problem now, but in your later age as well. As a per a study published in the British Medical Journal, on April 2005, people who were overweight in their forty’s were 75 percent more likely to develop dementia.
